I'm umpire HS and college baseball. Last summer while working a showcase tourney I took a foul ball straight to the mask. It knocked me out for a second or two and gave me a concussion. When I was cleared to get back behind the plate a month later I ordered a skull cap to go with my new Force3 mask to prevent another concussion. Concussions are no joke. Umpires are just as susceptible to them as any catcher or batter. I can wear this skull cap forward facing, just like a hat, and still remove my mask with ease when I need to. It does take just a little more effort to put my mask on correctly but that is fine with me. The rubberized matte finish holds the straps in place nicely. I can run without my mask falling off or wobbling around and then just flip my mask off one-handed when it's time to get down to business. I absolutely love it and will never go back behind the plate without it. It should be a requirement for ALL umpires to wear one instead of just a hat. Again, CONCUSSIONS ARE NO JOKE!
