Rumors: NBA Legend Dwight Howard Probably will Joins BSN's Guaynabo Mets for 2024 Tournament

March 1, 2024

In rumors, eight-time NBA All-Star player Dwight Howard has rumors that he will sign with the Guaynabo Mets, marking a significant addition to the National Superior Basketball (BSN) for the upcoming 2024 tournament.

The 38-year-old center arrived in Puerto Rico on Friday afternoon, eager to contribute to the Mets' success from the very start of the season. Howard shared his excitement about joining the team through a social media post, announcing his presence on the island.

Howard, known for his dominant presence in the NBA, will be stepping into the shoes of former NBA shooter DeMarcus Cousins as the cornerstone of the metropolitan team. Cousins, who played with Guaynabo last year, helped lead the Mets to the semifinals, where they fell to the eventual champions, the Carolina Giants, in a hard-fought seven-game series.

Joining forces with forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, fresh off two seasons with the San German Athletics, Howard aims to propel the Guaynabo Mets to new heights under the coaching guidance of former NBA point guard Jose Juan Barea.

The Mets kick off their season on April 3 at the Mario "Quijote" Morales Coliseum, hosting the Manati Bears. The team boasts a native roster featuring talents like Gary Browne, Jaysean Paige, Benito Santiago Jr., Renaldo Balkman, and EJ Crawford.

Dwight Howard's arrival adds to the growing trend of NBA figures joining the BSN. Last year, point guard Brandon Knight and center Hassan Whiteside made waves with the Pirates of Quebradillas, with Knight earning the 2023 Most Valuable Player award and Whiteside securing the Defense of the Year accolade.

Howard, the first pick of the 2004 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic, enjoyed a stellar career, winning three Defensive Player of the Year awards, making eight All-Team appearances, and clinching the NBA championship in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Renowned for his rebounding prowess and shot-blocking abilities, Howard has donned jerseys for various NBA teams, including the Lakers, Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, and Philadelphia. After concluding his NBA journey in the 2021-22 season with the Lakers, Howard showcased his global commitment to the game by playing in Taiwan with the Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League last year.
