The Rays continued their offseason moves by sending outfielder Steven Souza to Arizona in a three-team trade that saw the Yankees acquire a player from the infielder for Brandon Drury, according to various reports.
Trading three deals was beneficial to the Yankees and Diamondbacks, while the Rays, who designated outfielder Corey Dickerson to trade him and traded him for Jake Odorizzi in the past three days, indicate that it should be rebuilt.
Drury, who hit .267 / .317 / .447 with 13 home runs and 63 RBIs in 135 games last season, will likely play second or third base if young Ronald Torreyes and Miguel Andujar are not ready.
At Souza, the D-backs get a 30-homer threat that plays a solid defense in the outfield, a much less expensive alternative ($ 3.5 million) than J.D. Martinez, who signed a $ 110 million deal with the Red Sox on Monday.
The Yankees are sending second-base prospect Nick Solak to the Rays and pitching prospect Taylor Widener to Arizona. The Rays will also get left-hander Anthony Banda from the D-backs and another player.
